Product Description

Rim Type Push Bar 7400

The Model 7400 Rim Type Panic Exit Device combines architectural elegance with heavy-duty security. Engineered for sleek, high-end commercial environments, this UL-listed device features an integrated, full-length push pad that eliminates visual clutter while ensuring compliance with life safety codes. Unlike vertical rod systems, the 7400 utilizes a rim-type surface strike mechanism, making it exceptionally reliable and versatile. It is suitable for storefront glass, aluminum-framed, hollow metal, and wood doors in high-traffic spaces such as retail centers, corporate offices, schools, and healthcare facilities.

Key Features

  • UL Listed with Deadlocking Latchbolt: Features an auxiliary deadlatch that interlocks when the door is closed, preventing external tampering or "looiding" (carding) while ensuring immediate egress from the inside.
  • Non-handed design: Can be installed on left or right-hand doors, reducing installation time and inventory complexity.
  • Narrow stile support: Compatible with 1-3/4” (45 mm) aluminum door stiles, ideal for storefront applications.
  • Durable construction: Extruded aluminum rail and push pad combined with die-cast zinc head and end caps.
  • Finish options: Anodized dark bronze or aluminum for coordination with modern architectural hardware.
  • Simple 45-Degree Dogging operation: Depress the touch bar, hold, and turn the flathead screwdriver 45 degrees clockwise to enable passage mode.

Entry & Accessory Options

  • Lever Trim: Available for entrance or passage functions, allowing controlled access from the exterior side of the door.
  • Rim Cylinder: Required for keyed entry functionality; compatible with standard commercial Rim cylinders.

Installation Overview

  1. Preparation: Verify door dimensions and determine the hand of the door. Mark the standard mounting height at 39-17/32” from the finished floor to the centerline of the latch and strike.
  2. Sizing: Measure the distance between the mounting holes on the lock and hinge stiles, then add 7/8” (22 mm) to determine the correct panic device length.
  3. Mounting: Secure the exit device body onto the stiles using the specified thread-cutting machine screws. If an external key cylinder is integrated, cylinder spindle must be inserted into coupling boss prior to fastening latch end on lock stile.
  4. Strike Alignment: Install the strike on the lock jamb centered on the latch. Adjust the alignment to reduce the distance between the latch and strike to zero, ensuring proper activation of the deadlatch mechanism.
  5. Final Test: Verify smooth egress function and set dogging by pressing the touch bar and turning the flathead screwdriver 45 degrees clockwise.

Operating Instructions

  • To Unlock Door Using Cylinder Key:
Turn the key approximately 1/4 turn in either direction to retract the latch bolt and open the door. Return the key to the center position to remove. (NOTE: Exterior cylinder key WILL NOT dog the unit. Dogging must be performed from the inside via the end cover only.)
  • Dogging Using Flat-Head Screwdriver:
Fully depress the touch bar and hold. Insert a standard flat-head screwdriver into the dogging hole located on the end cover and turn clockwise approximately 45 degrees to dog the device in the hold-open (passage) position.
  • To Release Dogging:
Fully depress the touch bar and hold. Insert the flat-head screwdriver into the dogging hole and turn counterclockwise approximately 45 degrees. The touch bar will be released, and the latch bolt will re-engage for secure locking.
